Experiences worth staying for

We don't run a 24-hour concierge. What we do offer is something more considered — a carefully chosen list of extras we can arrange before you arrive, so your stay feels genuinely special from the moment you pull up the drive.

Only available when you book direct

Every experience on this page is arranged personally by us and is only available to guests who book directly through The Great Getaway. You won't find these through third-party platforms — they're our way of making sure booking direct is always worth it.

At the property

Before you even step outside

Sparkling wine on arrival

Sparkling wine on arrival

There's a bottle of sparkling wine chilling in the fridge when you arrive. It's a small thing, but walking into a beautiful house and finding something waiting for you sets the tone for everything that follows. We think every stay should start that way.

Included with every direct booking. Chilled and ready on arrival.

Private chef evening

Private chef evening

We work with a small number of trusted local chefs who will come to the property, cook a multi-course dinner in your kitchen, and leave it spotless. Perfect for a celebration, a milestone birthday, or simply a night when you'd rather not lift a finger.

Available at all three properties at an additional cost. Requires at least 7 days' notice. Menu tailored to your group.

A hamper of local produce

A hamper of local produce

We put together a hamper of produce sourced from local farms and makers — fresh bread, peckforton butter, local eggs, and a few things we think you'll enjoy. Everything in it comes from within a few miles of the properties. It's the kind of thing that makes a self-catering stay feel genuinely looked after.

Available to add to any direct booking. Contents vary seasonally. Let us know any dietary requirements.

"The kind of stay you find yourself describing to everyone for weeks afterwards."

Our little black book

Cheshire, the way we know it

We've lived and worked in this part of Cheshire for years. Every direct booking comes with our personal guide — self-guided walks with proper route notes, the restaurants we actually go to, the villages most visitors never find, and the things that make this corner of England worth exploring slowly.

Self-guided walks from the door

Self-guided walks

Self-guided walks from the door

We've walked these routes ourselves and written them up properly — not a printout from a website, but actual notes on where to go, what to look for, and where to stop. From a gentle hour through the lanes to a half-day out to Beeston Castle with the castle rising from the rock ahead of you, every route ends somewhere worth stopping.

Walking guides included with every direct booking. Routes for all abilities, from 1 to 8 miles.

Beeston Castle & the Cheshire plains

Beeston Castle & the Cheshire plains

One of the great walks in this part of England. You leave the property on foot, cross open farmland, and the castle appears on its sandstone crag long before you reach it. The views from the top stretch across the Cheshire plains on a clear day. We'll give you our route notes and tell you exactly where to park if you'd rather drive to the start.

Approx. 4–6 miles from the properties. Our route notes included. Best on a clear morning.

Chester — our edit

Chester — our edit

Chester is 25 minutes away and genuinely one of England's finest cities. Roman walls, medieval rows, the River Dee. We've been going for years and we know which restaurants are worth booking, which pubs are actually good, and which parts of the city most visitors miss entirely. Our Chester guide comes with every direct booking — it's the list we'd give a friend.

25–30 minutes from all properties. Our curated Chester guide included with your booking.

The villages worth finding

The villages worth finding

Bunbury, Malpas, Audlem, Tarporley — the villages around our properties are the kind of places that don't make it into the guidebooks but absolutely should. Ancient sandstone churches, proper country pubs with good food, and a pace of life that feels genuinely unhurried. We'll tell you which ones to visit and, more importantly, where to eat when you get there.

All within 15 minutes of the properties. Pub and restaurant recommendations included.

Delamere Forest & beyond

Delamere Forest & beyond

Delamere Forest is one of Cheshire's best-kept open secrets — miles of trails through ancient woodland, brilliant for cycling, walking, or just getting some air. For families, Go Ape runs high-ropes courses through the canopy. We can point you to the best entry points, the quieter trails, and the café that's actually worth stopping at.

20 minutes from the properties. We can help with Go Ape bookings and trail recommendations.

Our local guide — walks, restaurants, pubs, villages and seasonal recommendations — is included with every direct booking. You won't receive it through a third-party platform.

A personal touch

Not a call centre. Just us.

When you book direct, you get our personal attention before and during your stay. We'll help you plan your time, arrange any of the experiences above, and make sure everything is in place before you arrive. It's not a 24-hour service — it's something more considered than that. We're available when it matters, and we take the time to get the details right.
